Media arts, politics and reflexive potential

“There is also a need to utilise digital media to create complex modes of interaction which enable a wider array of media speeds and temporalities, so that the ‘reflexive’ potential of contemporary society can be deepened to include moments of reflection, negotiation and reciprocity rather than being reduced to merely the reflex response of a muscle galvanised by an electrical current. Relying on established media producers and institutions is unlikely to achieve this outcome. Explorations by contemporary artists and activists using new media in public space can yet play a critical role”.
